Old Friends

Old Friends

A Little Story

I can not drink, don’t anymore
it hurts too much to matter
I cannot drink, not any more
can’t cope with the morning afters

I cannot drink, not anymore
same-same old dull disasters
I cannot drink, no way, Dear Lord
don’t have the required stamina

I can not drink, not one for the road
can’t indulge ‘n’ go get plastered
I can not drink, it’s been so long
high time to break the pattern

I cannot drink, I never could
but that never stopped me startin’
I cannot drink, but always was
really quite good at tryin’
I can not drink, she served me well
especially when it came to partin’
I can not drink, it helped the most
‘specially when I was really hurtin’

I cannot drink, the cost’s too much
for a girl who’s paid for it all
I can not drink, the price too high
for a woman who needs to stand tall

I can not drink, it cost those friends
who need, for me to be small
I can not drink, it really was always
no kind of friend at all

I can not drink, she showed me well
the way to rise and fall
I cannot drink, it’s no big deal
never really mattered at all

I can not drink, those friends are near
who help, keep me on the ball
I can not drink, my love is near
to watch me drink, absolutely no booze at all

I cannot drink, so long old friend
thanks for the rise and fall

I can not drink, it’s been so long
never really mattered at all
I can not drink
but cheers! old friend
thanks for the rise and fall
